What "guage" are my ears pierced at?
I got my ears pierced a few weeks ago, and they ended up red & swollen. I went to the doctors to get something to sort out the infection- only to find I didn't have one, my ears just don't like the gold plating.
Since he did the piercing in the first place, he didn't charge me to switch the studs for 'surgical stainless steel' ones, and my ears have calmed down a lot in the last few hours.
My question is this; the only 'earrings' that are made of surgical steel are surgical steel piercing studs and Body Jewellery. S/S piercing studs are ugly. You don't "wear them", you put up with them so you can change them.
Since I won't be able to buy gold earrings from a jeweller, I will need to buy body jewellery instead. I have found some 'labrets' and 'barbells' I would be content to wear once I can change them myself, but they are sold by 'guage size' - 14G and 16G - if these are too big I can get hoops with balls on them in 18G.
