What is Bingo? by Stebee-16825
BINGO!! Doesn't everyone just love to scream it at the top of their lungs? Bingo has been an extremely popular game for centuries now, and its popularity shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. The early origins of bingo actually come from a lottery game called "Lo Giuoco Code Loto" played in Italy during the 1500's. This lottery game has evolved much over the years into the more common version of the game that we know and love today.
By 1929 this game had made its way over to America and was played at a carnival in Atlanta, Georgia. At this time however, the game was known as Beano. Beano was played with dried beans, a rubber stamp, and cardboard sheets. Edwin Lowe, who had witnessed this game being played in Atlanta, took the idea back to New York with him where he would market it and thus increase the popularity of the game beyond his wildest dreams. The word Bingo evolved from a contestant being so excited about winning that he yelled "bingo" instead of "beano". The Lowe Bingo Game quickly became a huge success in New York and was soon selling two versions to the American public. The first of which was a 12-card set for $1.00, the second was a $2.00 set with 24 cards. Lowe had so much interest in his creation at this time that he asked consumers wanting to use the set up for their own commercial gains to each pay just $1.00 to conduct games for one year. The only condition was that they had to use the name "Bingo" when playing.
By the 1940s bingo became extremely popular throughout all of the United States. Some of the more familiar bingo games known in modern times are those which are played on rectangular shaped boards with magnetic chips to cover the number, thin papers that are marked with ink from a pen that is known as a "dabber", or, more recently, the online version of the game.
Bingo is a game can be enjoyed by any person of any age. The mixture of brightly colored boards, various colours of chips and ink, winning combinations, and in some games, extremely high pay-outs for a win, is enough to keep anyone's attention. It is known that Bingo has been an enjoyable past time for many years, and should be for many more to come. Online bingo providers are ensuring that for those people who previously couldn't get down to a bingo hall can now enjoy this extremely popular game from the comfort of their study.
