What must i do to become a professional body piercer?
someone who does piercing and body mods professionally

I am a full time body piercer, and have been for 3 years. There are several ways to become a body piercer, but the most common is an apprenticeship. Some piercers are self-taught, but the highest number of us are the ones who started by training under an experienced piercer.
There are no accredited piercing schools in the United States. Classes are available, but they are often meant to teach people who have never been pierced more about what to expect, or to hone the skills of existing piercers, and teach us new methods or techniques. So, again, most people have an apprenticeship, a one - on -one learning time with an experienced piercer. It's easiest to get one by knowing piercers. Hang out in shops. Get pierced. Learn who in your town is good at their job, who might take an apprentice, when they might need one. The body modification industry is a very close-knit one, and the more people you know, the easier it is to get a job within it.
In order to get a piercing apprenticeship, you have to first find a piercer willing to take you on. I worked in a tattoo shop as the counter girl (receptionist, answering phones, setting appointments, cleaning the waiting area, doing paperwork, selling jewelry) for about 6 months, and convinced one of the artists, also a piercer, to train me as his replacement, since he wanted to focus on tattooing full time. Other piercers I know have gotten their apprenticeships similarly. Some artists will take on apprentices when they are ready for more piercers in their shop because business is busy, or when they are considering moving or retiring. Of those artists, some charge a fee for it, others will do it for free-in exchange for a contract with a no-compete clause, stating that you will work for their shop for a set amount of time, to make up the cost of training you at no expense to you.
