I already know that there have been a lot of gun control bills that never passed. Has there ever been a proposed federal handgun bill that would regulate handguns just as heavily as machine guns? I know that some places banned them, before the most recent gun control supreme court ruling.
Well what are the names of those anti-handgun bills?
Yes, the National Firearms Act of 1934. This is the law that regulates machine guns, silencers, short barreled rifles and shotguns, and a few other types of firearms. NFA as introduced in Congress would not only have covered MGs and short barrels, but also handguns. To prevent quibbling over what was a handgun, it added any other gun capable of concealment on the person. Congress eventually stripped the handgun part out of the final bill, but it was a very close vote.
