Henna/Mehndi questions?
Okay, I have two questions regarding henna. My mom bought me a Zeenat mehndi cone for this upcoming Eid, last weekend, it is pre-mixed and in a cone and I put it in the fridge, is this okay? I plan on applying it on Saturday to give it some time to darken since Eid will most likely be on Monday. When would it be ideal to take it out of the fridge?
And also, I'm pretty artistically challenged lol so I'm planning to use the transfer paper trick where you transfer an image of the design onto your hand with pen and trace over it with the henna. But my concern is, will the pen ink underneath affect the staining of the henna?
Unfortunately, pre-mixed henna often includes harsh chemicals. I wouldn't recommend using it on your skin... There is still time to order fresh natural henna (with express shipping so you get it in time for applying it for Eid) from www.ArtisticAdornment.com; a cone there is only $5.50.
Since pre-made chemical-filled henna has preservatives (and many other things, not all of which are good for your skin, and most of which are unlisted on the packaging), there is no need to put it in the fridge. It is designed to sit on the shelf for months or even years; it is not fresh at all. The good advice you have heard about putting henna in the fridge or freezer until you want to use it applies to natural henna only.
The transfer paper trick works great. You can even just transfer the image directly on your hand by rubbing it with rubbing alcohol and then putting a piece of printed paper up against it - the printer ink will transfer to your skin. The ink does not interfere with the henna stain (at least not much), and it can be washed away once your henna darkens. The ink will wash away, but the henna will stain. Do be careful to wait until the henna has darkened up nicely before getting it wet, though, as water interferes with the darkening process.
