A healthy lifestyle is generally defined by how physically healthy you are, right? For example, if you have a cold or are sick, you are considered not healthy. If you are dealth a life changing disease such as H.I.V. or cancer, you are not healthy. Now does that mean that it is entirely physical? Absolutely not! Your well being is also determined by your mental state. Think about this, the type of music you listen to generally affects your personality type. Here is a great example: I listened to Hard Rock as a teen (most teenagers do) and was extremely wild, a trouble maker, energetic, and lots of fun! Today I am more mature, I listen to lighter music and I am more calm, laid back, careless, and less energetic.
Now focus on music and setting the mood. Again, talking about the heavy rock, how does that make you feel when you hear it? I can tell you from experience that heavy music gets my blood rushing, my heart pounding, my head pulsing. In short, it sends me into overdrive! Now, how do you feel when you listen to light music? Let us go to the opposite extreme and use classical music as an example. While listening to a song composed by Beethoven, how do you feel? I am generally feeling very classy, sophisticated, makes me feel like expanding my knowledge, opening a book, enriching my life. It puts me in a totally different frame of mind. How about you?
So how does this make you live healthier? The right type of music could help your mood and attitude get better, creating a positive and happy outlook on life. It is a proven fact that a happier person lives longer and is healthier than someone who is always worried, miserable, and unhappy. The human body was not made to deal with stress all the time. That is where disease stems from. Look at the word, âdisâ âeaseâ. That means there is not ease in the human body, stress can be the cause of this. Music could be the fix.
Music can be enjoyed by all. How great do you feel when you listen to your favorite song come on the iPod or radio? How do you feel when you hear a song you do not enjoy? Not that great right?
Let us discuss movies. What about scary movies, what kind of soundtrack do they have? Most play really scary high pitched, fast paced scary soundtracks, others have gotten smart and have no music. This is genius because mentally, without music your mind wonders and it allows them to put more suspense behind the movie. Do you recall the Blair Witch Project? It was a very low budget flick, and done with no soundtrack. Somehow it still was one of the most popular and watched suspense movies of its time.
How about your feel good movies? Have you ever seen Disneyâs Enchanted? It is a musical all in its own that has light, soft, dance in the street, hug your neighbor, charming music. It could make me feel extremely caring and uncharacteristically in the mood to sing in the streets. Disney knew what they were doing with this. As with most Disney movies the music is crucial. It puts the audience in the mood and gives them something to look forward to.
How about action movies, what type of music do they focus on? I would say fast paced rock, techno, heavy music? Think about one of the best action movies ever â The Matrix. The theme song is a bass guitar with a fast paced riff. It puts me in the mood to do some damage! Not the most positive attitude, but still, makes me content for the time being.
What does all this music stuff have to do with being healthy? Discover what makes you happy and concentrate your efforts on that kind of music. Do not attempt to trick yourself; you know what it is that makes you feel the best. Enjoy this knowledge that you now posess on living just a little bit healthier with music and share this with your friends.
