How to Drape Designer Sarees and Party Wear Sarees in Style! by SK Shamim
Designer Sarees can be draped in numerous styles according to its different types but the most popular style of draping a saree is âThe Traditional styleâ or âNivi styleâ, which was originally common in Andhra Pradesh. Apart from the nivi style of draping saree, almost each state has its own style of saree draping. In order to know the different styles of wearing a saree, it is better to learn and master the traditional sari draping technique first. Steps to drape a saree perfectly in a traditional style are mentioned below:
âFor wearing designer sarees or party wear sarees, itâs very important to get a similar tone blouse and petticoat. While the petticoat should be of the same color as saree, blouse can be of contrasting color also in order to give different effects to the saree.
âUnfold the designer saree and hold the least patterned edge and tuck it into the waistband of the petticoat slightly to the right side.
âDrape around and place in the some portion of the saree from right to left. Make sure that the lower end of the sari is only an inch above the floor. One should wear high heel sandal before draping the saree. It helps to determine the right length of saree while tucking it in.
âNow take the decorative end of the designer saree i. e., âpalluâ and measure it at about 1 to 1-1/2 meters. Take it at the back from your left shoulder and bring it in front of you again from your right. Now, the middle portion of saree will be left that can be pleated and tucked into the waistband of the petticoat.
âToss the pallu over your left shoulder so that it doesnât come in the way while you fold the pleats of the saree.
âTake hold of the loose end of the saree at the right side (where tucking in has been stopped) and, start pleating the remaining saree into five to six inch wide pleats.
Clutch all the pleats together and hold them properly. Ensure that the bottom of the saree is in sync with the rest of it and then tuck all the pleats into the waistband of the petticoat. Make sure that to tuck them slightly to the left of the navel. The Pallu of the designer Saree or party wear saree can be left free to cover the left arm completely to flaunt its design. And, it can also be arranged in three or four pleats and pinned up with blouse at the back of your left shoulder. Wearing a saree may appear to be tough from the above mentioned steps, but its well worth the effort given the elegance and charm a saree adds to the female form. Try it!
